Dexter committee makes trouble

In the weekend edition of July 28-29, Debra D. Ricker brought up a very sore subject with a lot of people in Dexter.

The Citizens for Irresponsible Government is the correct name for this so-called “committee.” You would think with all the noise this group is making that there are several hundred members. Actually, there are about four to eight persons in this ridiculous group.

No town wants to have an obligation like Dexter is taking on with our share in the payment for the transfer station. The state of Maine has mandated that the landfill must be closed and an alternative method of trash disposal must be found. The five towns included in this project decided that the transfer station is the best solution. I am sure the Dexter Town Council would like to spend taxpayers’ money on a lot of other projects….

I live in an area where I do not have trash pickup. Yes, it is my choice to live here, but where am I going to take my trash when the landfill is closed and the transfer station is not built on time? Maybe I can drive all the way to Orrington to the Penobscot Energy Recovery Co. (PERC). You notice that this committee never gives alternatives to our pressing problem.

The people of Dexter need to wake up and see what this committee “who is acting in our best interests” (not mine) is doing to us; they are making a lot of needless and expensive trouble! Priscilla White Reeves Dexter
