Harrington man killed on barrens

CHERRYFIELD — A 60-year-old Harrington man died Monday after having been crushed beneath a truck on the blueberry barrens near Schoodic Lake.

State Trooper Kelly Barbee of Cherryfield said Albert Reynolds, the accident victim, had crawled under the driver’s side of a partly loaded blueberry truck to try to “jump start” the vehicle after having failed to start the truck with its ignition key.

Barbee said the truck started while in gear and that Reynolds was “rolled and crushed” between the left, front spring-shackle and part of the exhaust system.

The accident happened at 4:30 p.m., on the Baseline Road, according to Barbee.

The body of the accident victim was freed from beneath the truck by using a forklift sent by the Jasper Wyman and Son Co.

Reynolds was reported dead at the scene by Dr. Donald M. Robertson of Harrington.

Barbee said Reynolds had been employed as a truck driver by Kim Colbeth of Cherryfield, a leaseholder for Wyman Co. The truck had been leased by Colbeth, according to Barbee.
