State Rep. Carolyne Mahany appointed to commission to study Maine courts

EASTON — State Rep. Carolyne Mahany, D-Easton, has been appointed by Maine House Speaker John Martin to the Commission to Study the Future of Maine’s Courts.

“Maine’s citizens demand prompt efficient service from the courts. We need a court system that will be ready to meet tomorrow’s challenges,” said Mahany.

The commission was formed to examine various judicial issues, including integration of court systems and the costs involved; availability and use of alternative dispute resolution mechanisms; judicial salaries; recommendations of the Court Mediation Service; evaluation of pilot projects; and recommendations of the Maine Commission on Legal Needs.

The commission will give its report by Nov. 15, 1992, to the Joint Standing Committee on Judiciary and the office of the executive director of the Legislative Council. The commission’s report will include the results of its findings and recommendations, together with any legislation necessary to implement the recommendations.
