Tourists flock to St. Andrews

Maritime Canada Tab

St. Andrews is a lovely resort town on the coast with a charming atmosphere that has attracted travelers for many years.

It is one of the province’s oldest towns, founded in 1783 by United Empire Loyalists. Many of these early settlers dismantled their former homes in Castine, and reassembled them in St. Andrews. Over one-half of the town’s buildings are more than 100 years old.

The landscape is dominated by the turrets of the imposing Algonquin Hotel built in the early 1900s.

The Henry Phipps Ross and Sarah Juliette Ross Memorial Museum displays the Ross collection of furniture, rugs and Chinese export porcelain and decorative art objects in a house-museum setting.

Other attractions of historical interest include the Charlotte County Courthouse and a blockhouse that is a national historic site.
