ROCKLAND — What is responsible island journalism? How much is the media at fault for perpetrating the “island myth”? These questions will be explored during a discussion led by Island Institute Managing Editor Cynthia Bourgeault at the eighth annual Island Institute Conference Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 8-9, on Hurricane Island.
The theme of this year’s conference is “Speaking About Islands: What is Responsible Island Journalism?” Among the journalists participating from Maine will be David Platt, Maine Times; Agatha Cabaniss, Islesboro Island News; and Steve Heddericg, The Rockland Courier-Gazette. They will discuss their experiences reporting on Maine island issues.
Reservations are available for limited space. A fee of $70 will be charged for members, $90 for non-members, including transportation, meals, tent space and attendance. Boat moorings are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
