ELLSWORTH — An Ellsworth teen-ager pleaded guilty in District Court Thursday morning to four counts of criminal mischief, stemming from incidents he was involved in on June 17, 18 and 19 in Ellsworth.
Mat Brown, 18, of Ellsworth, who pleaded guilty to the Class D offenses, received a suspended six-month sentence to Hancock County Jail and one year probation on the first two counts. In addition, Brown must pay $1,750 in restitution to his victims as well as write letters of apology and perform 50 hours of public service.
On the third and fourth counts, Brown received an additional six-month suspended sentence to Hancock County Jail and an additional year of probation. The consecutive sentencing on those two counts also means that Brown will pay an additional $1,750 in restitution and serve an additional 50 hours of public service.
According to Michael Povich, Hancock County district attorney, Brown will serve probation in Georgia where he is planning to attend college this fall.
The incidents of criminal mischief included a damaged mailbox and broken window on Bayside Road, a broken window on Hancock Street, a broken windowshield at RV World, and other broken windows on School Street. Another incident June 19 involved broken lights outside Ellsworth High School, illegal entry into the school, and theft of athletic uniforms and equipment.
No reason has been cited for the incidents, with neither drugs nor alcohol involved. Two Ellsworth juveniles also were involved in the incidents.
