Indictments stem from road fatality

ELLSWORTH — The Hancock County grand jury on Wednesday indicted Joey M. Woodman, 31, of East Holden who faces four counts, including manslaughter, aggravated assault, and two counts of aggravated operating while under the influence of intoxicating liquor.

Woodman was involved in a car accident on June 2 which resulted in the death of Joseph French, 21, of East Holden. While operting a 1979 Pontiac Firebird, Woodman allegedly lost control of the car when he failed to negotiate a curve on the Bald Mountain Road in Orland.

The car left the road and struck several trees before coming to a rest. French, a passenger in the car, died at the scene. A second passenger, Curtis Hutson of East Holden, suffered serious injuries in the accident.
