Change of venue sought

ROCKLAND — A change of venue and a number of other motions were filed by Attorney T.J. Connolly in Knox County Superior Court on Friday in the case of state prison inmate Randy Tenggren.

Tenngren, 29, of Portland has been charged, along with Roger L. Smith, 21, with murder, causing a suicide and aggravated assault in the hanging death of a third inmate, Larry L. Richardson.

Richardson was found hanged in his cell on March 5 at Maine State Prison.

Connolly filed motions to change the venue of the trial because of the publicity from the case and the large number of prison employees in the midcoast area.

He also filed motions to dismiss the case on grounds of discriminatory prosecution, a request for a grand jury transcript, and suppression of statements made by Tenggren to state police officers.
