Road, bridge projects up for bid at Brewer

Replacement of the Eaton Brook Bridge and improvement of more than four miles of Routes 9 and 15 in Brewer will be done by September 1991 after a project timetable is set by the bidder chosen on Wednesday, Aug. 29.

The repaving of the two routes was done under one contract to save money, Maine Department of Transportation officials said. Improvements on North Main Street will begin at State Street and extend east for 3.7 miles to Eddington.

Paving shoulders, construction of wheelchair ramps at sidewalk corners and improvements to drainage will be made.

The concrete deck of Eaton Brook Bridge will be replaced, steel beams will be realigned to eliminate an overhang on the downstream side of the bridge, and approaches will be rebuilt to match the new 40-foot-wide deck.

A contract provision will call for two-way traffic over the bridge from Dec. 1 to March 15.

On South Main Street from Harris Road east nearly a half mile to Grove Street, old pavement will be ground off and replaced. Work will include drainage improvements.
