ROCKLAND — For the 15th year, the American Association of University Women will sponsor the Maine Authors Series under co-chairmen Jean Nickel and Marge Roberts. This fund-raising event to benefit the AAUW scholarship fund will begin Thursday, Sept. 20, and continue on the following two Thursday mornings, Sept. 27 and Oct. 4. This series of lectures will feature nine Maine authors, three from the mid-coast area.

On Sept. 20, Richard Grant who recently moved to Rockport from Washington, D.C., will discuss his book “Views from the Oldest House”; Kathleen Lignell, a poet, has edited, with Margery Wilson, an anthology of Maine women writers titled “The Eloquent Edge”; and Eleanor Richardson, a summer resident of North Haven for many years, will speak about her book “Hurricane Island, the Town that Disappeared.”

On Thursday, Sept. 27, Deborah Davis, of Camden, will discuss “The Secret of the Seal” which was chosen by the International Reading Association as one of its “teacher’s choice” books for 1989; Jean Pollard who has published several books including a cookbook, a child’s fairy tale, and science fiction will introduce the audience to her “New Maine Cooking”; and Thomas Verde of Portland will speak of his collection of tales of horror, revenge, and ghostly humor in “Maine Ghosts and Legends.”

The Thursday, Oct. 4, lecture will feature Diana Davies’ Photojourney, 20 years of the author’s experiences traveling throughout the world; Elizabeth Pollack with her first novel “The Rowantree Crop,” will discuss this mystery story set in the foothills of southwestern Maine; and John Splettstoesser of Rockland who has traveled often to Antarctica will speak of one of his books about the region, “Mineral Resources of Antarctica.”

The programs will begin at 10 a.m. each Thursday at the Camden Congregational Church. Tickets are $18 for the series, and information and reservations can be obtained by calling Peg Rowe.
