SHERMAN MILLS — The state police are investigating a weekend burglary at a Sherman Mills grocery store in which a large sum of cash and checks were stolen.
According to Trooper Mark Sawyer, thieves broke into the Sherman IGA on Route 158 sometime late Saturday night or early Sunday morning and stole what he said was a considerable amount of cash and checks.
He declined to give further details because the investigation was continuing.
The store is owned by Herbert and Sharon Fithian of Sherman Mills.
Assisting with the investigation are Trooper David Socoby and Detective Marvin Hayes.
Police have requested that anyone who has any information about the burglary call the state police in Houlton at 1-800-432-7384. Callers are not required to identify themselves.
