FALMOUTH — Mushrooms, whales and eagles are some of the diverse subjects to be studied in field trips offered by the Maine Audubon Society in September.
A workshop on mushrooms will be held by Sam Ristich at noon Friday, Sept. 7, through Sunday, Sept. 9. Cost is $35 for members, $40 for non-members.
A whale-watching cruise will leave Kennebunkport at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, to see jaegers, alcids, gannets, shearwaters and varieties of gulls. Cost is $24 for members, $26 for non-members.
A cruise will leave Boothbay Harbor at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, for an autumn journey through scenic tidal river systems of the Kennebec, Sasanoa and Merrymeeting Bay area. Waterfowl including Canada geese, black ducks, mallards, pintail, blue-winged teal, wood ducks, goldeneye, mergansers and other species have been seen on past trips and bald eagles are a highlight of the cruise. Cost is $20 for members and $25 for non-members.
An excursion by van to beaches of Wells, Ogunquit and Laudholm Farm will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 22. The geological events that formed the Maine coast will be the subject of the trip, which costs $28 for members and $34 for non-members.
