BLUE HILL — The Hancock County Agricultural Society will offer several exhibits during the Blue Hill Fair which begins Thursday and runs through Monday, Sept. 3.

The State of Maine two-crusted Blueberry Pie Contest will take place Saturday, Sept. 1. Entries will be accepted from 9 a.m. to noon and are to have the recipe on a 4-by-6-inch card. Prizes will be $100, first; $60, second; and $40, third.

Home arts and crafts items will be accepted between 6 and 9 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 29, and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 30. Divisions include quilts, afghans, rugs, wearing apparel, fancy work, wall hangings, oil paintings, leather crafts, woodwork and novelty items.

The flower department will accept specimens of flowers and house plants between 8 a.m. and 10 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 30, and 8 and 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 31. Annuals, biennials and perennials are to be exhibited in groups of three stalks per variety, with bulbs or tubers in one stalk. For more information, contact Mrs. Jane Alley at 374-5677.

Vegetable exhibits should be wiped clean, not washed or peeled. Pod vegetables will be exhibited in groups of 12; melons, cabbage and squash, two; all other varities in groups of five per variety. Each entry must have the correct name tag. Fruits will be accepted in groups of five or by the quart for berries. Vegetables, fruits and canned goods will be accepted from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 29; 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 30; and 8 a.m. to noon on Friday, Aug. 31.

The society has added a blueberry muffin and bread-baking contest to the fair this year. Each entrant in the muffin contest should enter three muffins of their favorite recipe.
