T17 R6 — A Soldier Pond woman received minor injuries in an early morning accident in T17 R6, between Eagle Lake and Portage, Tuesday.

Trooper Arnold Smart of the Maine State Police said Karen Pelletier, 33, was traveling south on Route 11 at about 7:30 a.m., when two moose ran into the road as she was negotiating a curve.

In an attempt to avoid striking the moose, Pelletier braked and her vehicle went into a skid, Smart said. She struck one of the moose and her vehicle went off the road.

Smart said Pelletier received minor cuts and abrasions and was taken by private vehicle to Northern Maine Medical Center, where she was treated and released.

Four passengers in the vehicle were uninjured. The moose was killed, he said.

Smart estimated damage to Pelletier’s 1986 van at $4,000.

He said no charges were made in connection with the accident.
