Brewer announces 13 new teachers

Pupils in Brewer this year will be seeing 13 new faces in their classrooms. Below is a list of the new teachers and a little background information about who they are. The names are in alphabetical order.

Cara Boulette of Orrington is a first-grade teacher at the Pendleton Street School. She is a graduate of the University of Maine and has five years of experience in the Alton and Glenburn school systems. Boulette is currently working on her master’s degree in reading.

Molly Campbell of Bangor will teach science at the Brewer Middle School this year. She is a UM graduate with a degree in biology and has been an instructional assistant and substitute in Brewer.

Gary Co-Wallis of Brewer is the new fifth-grade teacher at the State Street School. He graduated from UM with a degree in elementary education. Co-Wallis has been a long-term substitute teacher in Brewer and also has worked in Winterport.

Donald Erb of Bangor will teach social studies at Brewer High School this year. He received a bachelor’s degree from Springfield College and a master’s degree in education from UM. Erb also has taught in Hampden and has extensive coaching experience. Erb will become the assistant high school boys soccer coach.

Julianne Gaboury of Orono will be the system’s elementary school art teacher. She is a UM graduate with a degree in art education. Gaboury has three years of experience teaching in Howland as well as assistant teaching experience in Bangor.

Deborah Gunn of Hampden will be the composite room teacher at the Capri Street School. She holds a bachelor’s degree in special education and a master’s degree in early childhood special education from Southern Connecticut State University. She has worked in Connecticut, Virginia, and most recently in Veazie.

Richard Kimball of Bangor will be teaching social studies at the high school. Kimball, known in the area because of his television and radio broadcasting, is a UM graduate and holds a degree in social studies. He has teaching experience in Bangor as well as coaching experience in Bangor, Brewer and Old Town.

Darlene Paine of Brewer is a new mathematics teacher at the middle school. She holds a bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Maine and has two years of teaching experience in East Corinth. She has been a field hockey coach in Brewer in East Corinth.

Amanda Percival of Bangor will teach string instruments for pupils in the third through the 12th grade. She holds a music education degree from UM and has three years of teaching experience in Unity. She conducts the Central Maine Youth Orchestra and teaches in music summer camps.

Leonard Samborski of Brewer will teach mathematics at the middle school this year. He holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan-Dearborn and a teaching certificate from Eastern Michigan University. He has taught in a Brewer summer program and has taught in Ellsworth.

Rebecca Shultz of Carmel is the regional program occupational therapist. She holds a bachelor’s degree in occupational therapy from Utica College of Syracuse University and a master’s degree in pediatric occupational therapy from Towson State University. She has worked with United Cerebral Palsy of Northeastern Maine and has worked in related areas in New Jersey and Maryland.

Jeanne Stanhope of Old Town is a fifth-grade teacher at State Street. She is a graduate of the University of Maine at Farmington and holds a degree in elementary education. She has three years of experience in Massachusetts and has participated in a team-teaching environment program.

Thomas Winston of Brewer is a fourth-grade teacher at the Washington Street School. He holds a degree from UMF and has teaching experience in Corinna, Presque Isle, Lewiston, Litchfield and Durham. He has coaching experience and has worked in basketball camps throughout Maine. He has been appointed as the head coach for the high school’s girls basketball team.
