Orono and Old Town posted LTC Class B victories, while Waterville and Winslow won in Pine Tree Conference action during Saturday’s schoolboy football action across the region.

The Red Riots blanked Foxcroft Academy 49-0, the Indians edged Rockland 25-18, the Panthers edged Gardiner 20-18 and the Black Raiders shut out Morse of Bath 19-0.

In Class C action, Madison held off Maine Central Institute of Pittsfield 28-22.

Orono 49, Foxcroft 0

At Orono High School, halfback John Denis paced a balanced Red Riot rushing attack with 77 yards on 10 carries and the Orono defense held strong while beating the Ponies.

Quarterback Mark Smith rushed for 74 yards on eight carries, while halfback Sundance Campbell covered 68 yards on 10 tries. Smith scored on runs of 12, 12 and 14 yards, while Denis had a 14-yard touchdown run. Kent Commeau added a three-yard plunge and Smith connected with Jay Vetelino on a 40-yard scoring pass.

John Munson completed the scoring with a 40-yard interception return. Rob Yerxa had five solo tackles and recovered a fumble to key the Orono defense. Dave Best also had five solos.

Old Town 25, Rockland 18

At Victory Field in Old Town, Nat Lord broke two tackles and raced 66 yards for a touchdown with 3:05 to play to help the Indians earn their initial victory.

Rockland threatened in the late going, moving to the Indians 23-yard line, but the Old Town defense held to preserve the victory. Lord carried 20 times for 184 yards and had seven solo tackles from his linebacker spot.

Blaine Demont scored two touchdowns for Old Town, the first on a 20-yard run in the first quarter and the other on a 32-yard jaunt in the third. He finished with 89 yards on 12 carries. Paul Bosse also connected with Chris Taylor on a seven-yard TD pass.

Rockland scored on Paul Benjamin’s 80-yard kickoff return and on scoring runs of three and four yards by Bill Stinson.

Madison 28, MCI 22

At Pittsfield, senior tailback Ross Fichthorn rolled up 275 yards and three touchdowns on 27 carries to help power defending state champion Madison to victory.

Fichthorn scored on runs of 29, 63 and 56 yards, while Jeff Bess (10 carries, 81 yards) had a 19-yard scoring run. The Bulldogs limited MCI to 39 yards rushing, but quarterback Adam Friend completed 16 of 26 passes for 171 yards.

Friend fired TD passes of 35 and 22 yards to Steve Shaw and also hooked up with Ron Chute on a 15-yarder.

Waterville 20, Gardiner 18

At Waterville, Andy Lambert and Brian Charrier tackled Paul Lavallee short of the end zone on a conversion rush with 2:19 to play to preserve the victory for the Panthers.

Junior quarterback Jason Jabar (12 carries, 71 yards) scored all three Waterville TDs on carries of 15, 5 and 11 yards. Barry Clukey’s two PAT kicks were the difference.

Lavallee turned in a 77-yard kickoff return for a score and Mark Ladner scored on a one-yard keeper for the Tigers.

Winslow 19, Morse 0

At Winslow, Junior QB Jason Veilleux scored on a one-yard run and threw a 35-yard scoring pass to Derek Poirer to help spark the Black Raiders to victory.

Stan Farrell added a three-yard touchdown run for Winslow.
