A sentence in Thursday’s story about former Penobscot County Sheriff Timothy Richardson bears clarification regarding the termination of a former chief deputy’s employment. Richardson did not fire Glenn Ross in 1984, rather, Ross resigned from the sheriff’s department, county records show. Thursday’s story referred to a 1984 Bangor Daily News article which quoted then-Sheriff Richardson as saying he had fired Ross. Ross, quoted in the same story, maintained that he had resigned voluntarily. Ross since has returned to the Sheriff’s Department.
