FARMINGTON — Maine investigators are exchanging information with authorities in numerous other states and Canada as they follow up on tips from scores of people who have offered information following a series of attempted child abductions in central Maine.

“It’s amazing, really, how many people want to get involved,” Capt. James Miclon of the Oxford County sheriff’s office said Saturday, although he reported no breakthroughs in the probe.

Miclon said news reports about the abduction attempts in recent weeks caught the attention of many vacationers from other states who thought they recognized similarities to situations in their home states. The tips have been so numerous that Miclon said he is cataloging them in a computer.
