A Hampden man was summoned by Bangor police last week after allegedly assaulting a pedestrian to whom he had just given a ride in his taxi.

William Rankin, 45, of 695 Main Road North, Hampden, was charged with aggravated assault, failure to report an accident, and driving to endanger.

Rankin, a cab driver with A-1 taxi, had just dropped off the victim and another woman near their Capehart home when he and the women began to argue, according to police. The victim then allegedly stuck her head inside Rankin’s window when he allegedly reversed the car, leaving tire marks.

The woman was dragged down part of Finson Road before being thrown. Rankin then allegedly ran over her foot.

Rankin told police that the woman attacked him, scratching his face and knocking off his eye glasses, although police reported no damage to Rankin, according to a police report. Rankin then left the scene, fearing for his safety, he told police.

Wilfred Pehrson, 31, of 28 Center St., Indian Island, was arrested by Bangor police and charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of intoxicating liquor after being involved in an accident in Bangor.

Bangor police reported that someone broke into law offices located at 50 Columbia St., Bangor, during the weekend. Although the burglar damaged a bookcase, the only item apparently taken were copies of airline tickets belonging to one of the lawyers. Damage to the bookcase was listed at $200.
