MADISON — Lillian Ingraham is the new superintendent of schools for Athens, Brighton Plantation, Madison and Starks, SAD 59 officials have said.

Ingraham was chosen because she has a wide range of educational practices, the ability to maintain and improve facilities, and an understanding of fiscal responsibility, officials said.

She has worked at the high school, junior high school and elementary levels, and has knowledge of curriculum integration and communication needs between the schools.

She was principal in York Public Schools and has worked in Kennebunk; Hartford, Conn.; and Rochester, N.Y.

She is a graduate of the University of Maine in Orono, the University of Connecticut and is a doctoral candidate with Nova University. Ingraham is a lifelong learner who began her studies as a mother of five children.
