TDC awarded new contract

The Training and Development Corp. of Bangor, operator of the Penobscot Job Corps Center, also in Bangor, has been awarded a contract of more than $10 million to continue operating the center.

The new contract covers the period from Oct. 1, 1990, to Sept. 30, 1992. It also provides for three, one-year option periods upon satisfactory performance.

The Penobscot center has an enrollment capacity of 335, and offers vocational training in business and clerical skills, health occupations, food service and building and apartment maintenance.

TDC also operates Woodland Job Corps Center in Laurel, Md.

The Job Corps is a nationwide network of 107 residential youth employment and training centers. It offers vocational training, remedial education and support services for about 65,000 disadvantaged youth from 16 to 21 years of age.

To date, Job Corps has served about 2 million young people who have moved into gainful employment or have pursued further education and advanced training.
