Helen Nearing, ecologist, pacificist and co-author of “Living the Good Life,” will speak on “Simply Good Food” at 6 p.m. Sept. 15 at the First United Methodist Church in Bangor. Her lecture will occur in conjunction with the 2nd Annual Harvest Supper of the Peace and Justice Center of Eastern Maine.

Nearing and her late husband, Scott, were vanguards of the back-to-the-land movement in the early 1970s. Their book, which told of their 20-year homesteading experience, explained living “sanely and simply in a troubled world.”
