OTHS begins self-evaluation

OLD TOWN — A two-year self-evaluation has begun at Old Town High School, for grades nine through 12, to obtain reaccreditation by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges.

A requirement of accreditation is self-examination by the staff and a visitng committee of professional educators who review materials, visit classes and talk with students, teachers and administrators during a four-day visit.

The visit will begin March 1, and high school faculty met Sept. 12 to begin work on the study.

The NEASC, founded in 1885, is the oldest accrediting agency in the nation. It is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as the sole agency to accredit secondary schools in New England.
