I remember that when former Gov. Brennan was mandated to return money by a referendum he rejected the people’s wishes. I am sure the present and future governor would not have been so high-handed. In fact, Gov. McKernan is the only recent governor to send checks back to the citizens of Maine.

What kind of man would say, “There is nothing to balancing a budget,” as Joe Brennan clearly implies when he has only helped the federal deficit to grow, as his voting record proves, and on top of that he got himself a darn good raise, too. Apparently, he can’t recall that in 1987 he left office with an unfunded $50 million commitment. That’s his way to balance a budget!

Jock had to find the money on his watch, and that’s the way the Big D’s want the state of Maine’s finances to be managed. Look also back to 1983 when big Joe had a negative cash balance in the bank. Balance a budget? The Democrats have always been known as the party that spends and spends. I’ll vote for Jock because he can do the job as he just proved. Philip B. Turner Caribou
