Eastport police arrested Rodney Perkins, 25, of Eastport early Saturday morning for assaulting a police officer and attacking a cruiser.

An officer on foot patrol saw Perkins and two other men drinking at the seawall at about 3 a.m. Saturday. After the men refused to leave, the officer attempted to arrest Perkins and was assaulted. Backup officers were called.

Perkins then threw a beer bottle through the rear window of the police cruiser, kicked the side of the car, smashed the headlights and bent the radio antenna. The officer was not injured, but the cruiser received $828 in damage.

Perkins was charged with assault, failure to disperse and criminal mischief and was taken to Washington County Jail. The other two men, George Morrison, 24, and Christopher Stevenson, 18, both of Eastport, were issued court summonses for failure to disperse.

Patricia Clement, 26, Pleasant Point, was charged with assault Saturday night for attacking a woman at a dance at the Knights of Pythias Hall in Eastport.
