HERMON — Maine Street ’90 will recognize the people who participated in Hermon Fun Day by presenting the Recreation Committee and other volunteers with certificates.
A ceremony will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 22, at the town office. Everyone is welcome to attend. Sixty volunteers will also be recognized, said Peggy Elmer, committee chairwoman.
The fifth annual Old Fashioned Fun Day in July was a community get-together with a small-town flavor. The event, said to be the most successful ever, was aimed at stirring community pride in celebration of the town’s history and its future.
In a letter to all Maine Street ’90 communities, Gov. John R. McKernan asked Mainers to “step back for a moment and reflect on Maine as you grew up. Towns nutured their children with wisdom and warmth; families shared the anecdotes and personal history compiled over the decades.
“Maine Street ’90 is a vehicle toward this goal,” the governor wrote. “We must give our children the best education possible, and make sure they have good jobs and challenging opportunities right here in Maine.”
State Sen. Jermone Emerson, Rep. Catharine Koch Lebowitz, and Tom Greenquist, Penobscot County’s representative on the Maine Street ’90 board of directors, are expected to attend the brief ceremony.
