FORT KENT – The University of Maine at Fort Kent Healthtracs program will ffer sports conditioning classes for adult and high school athletes beginning this week. An eight-week sports conditions program for adults will meet from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday and Thursday, beginning Monday, Oct. 22.

Instructor Rachel Kinney, Healthtracs coordinator, said the decision to offer the adult class Monday and Thursday was based on decreasing time between classes. “Offering it on Mondays and Wednesdays or Tuesdays and Thursdays left too many days between classes from one week to the next,” she said.

A seven-week coukrse for student athletes will be offered from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, from Oct. 30 to Dec 13. It is designed for high school students who want to get in shape for winter sports and recreation activities.

Kenney said the courses would focus on “safety, flexibility, building up muscle strength, toning and cardiovascular conditioning.” Injury prevention also will be addressed.

Participants in both programs will have full access to the gymnasium and its facilities diring normal open hours. Facilities include the weight room, gymnasium floor, locker rooms and recqueball courts.
