Owls Head library holds open house

OWLS HEAD — There was a good attendance in spite of the rainy afternoon when open house and membership day was held Saturday afternoon at the library. Trustee Robert Ehmann received memberships in the absence of the treasurer, Polly Pulkkinen, who was unable to attend. Those who did not attend Saturday’s open house may send their membership dues to Polly Pulkkinen, P.O. Box 42, Owls Head 04854.

Serving as hostesses were Mary Fales, vice president; Mary Dyer, librarian; Carolyn Elliott, secretary; and trustees Elvie Hudson and Evelyn Ross. Ross also served as librarian during the afternoon.

Refreshments were provided by the hostesses and Diane Dyar and Mary Ehmann. In the center of the refreshment table was a bouquet of fall asters provided by Mary Fales.

Eight new books donated by Diane and John Dyar in memory of Elisabeth Walker were available during the afternoon for the children. The books include “Best Friends for Frances” by Russell Hoban; “The Happy Days,” Marc Simont; “The Bear’s Toothache,” David McPhail; “There’s a Nightmare in My Closet,” Mercer Mayer; “Outside Over There,” Maurice Sendak; “The Amazing Bone,” William Steig; “Hide and Seek Fog,” Alvin Tresselt; and “The Lonely Doll,” Dare Wright.

A work session has been set from 9 a.m. to noon Friday, Oct. 26, at the library. All interested in helping out are welcome to attend.
