State Supreme Court appoints lawyer to term on Board of Overseers of Bar

PRESQUE ISLE — Lawyer Richard C. Engels has been appointed to the state Board of Overseers of the Bar for a term of three years. Justices of the Maine Supreme Judicial Court also appointed Curtis Webber of Auburn to the board. Their terms begin Oct. 31.

The nine-member board is responsible for the overseeing and discipline of lawyers.

A New York native, Engels is a partner in the law firm of Stevens, Engels, Bishop & Sprague in Presque Isle. He attended public schools in Rochester, N.Y., and graduated from Bowdoin College in 1963. He received a law degree in 1966 from Columbia University.

Engels served in the Army and attained the rank of captain. From 1967 to 1968, he served in Vietnam. He is married to the former Carole St. Pierre, an emergency medicine physician in Caribou. They have two children.
