Property revaluation to take place

SKOWHEGAN — MMC, the firm hired by Skowhegan to do the property revaluation, will start visiting the following roads on Monday, Nov. 5: Waterville, East River, Red Oak Drive, Canaan, Lambert, Swain Hill, Oak Pond and Eaton Mountain Roads.

The personnel that will be visiting the properties will be wearing photo IDs, town officials announced. Descriptions are on file with the Assessors Office and Police Dept. They will be asking to do an interior inspection and take outside measurements. The revaluation is being conducted to produce an equitable assessment for property tax purposes, town officials said.

If the MMC representative is unable to find an adult at home after two attempts to do an interior inspection, he will leave a door hanger with the Assessors Office telephone number to call and schedule an appointment for the interior inspection. Officials stressed that it is important that an appointment be scheduled as soon as possible. Any homeowner who refuses access to an inspector will be charged an estimated property value.

The Commercial Data Collector is currently measuring and listing all commercial properties, and the Assessor’s Assistant is taking photographs of all buildings within Skowhegan.

The officials also said that verifications of all sales that have taken place since April 1, 1990, will be done throughout the town.
