PRESQUE ISLE — A representative from the Maine State Housing Authority will meet at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, with the Aroostook Land Trust to discuss the MSHA’s new land acquisition program and other agency programs that may help the land trust develop affordable housing. The meeting will be held at the Pine Tree Legal Assistance Inc. office, 572 Main St.
Michael Barber, director of the office of non-profit housing for the MSHA’s development division, will discuss the basic eligibility requirement for a comprehensive housing plan, and how the MSHA may assist in the plan’s development.
The new Land Acquisition Program provides MSHA funding to non-profit organizations to purchase and make minor capital improvements on land that will be used to provide affordable housing. Barber will discuss other MSHA programs, such as the targeted homestart program that provides 5 percent interest rate mortgages to low income first-time homebuyers.
The Aroostook Land Trust, formed two years ago, is a non-profit organization developing affordable housing for low-income families in Aroostook County.
