In regard to your article on tree-spiking; if your readers want to see the real environmental terrorism in the north woods, it’s only a short drive to the “industrial forests.” Carpool it!

When everyone reads of official condemnation, remember the role all these voices have played in bringing us to the edge of environmental, economic, and social destruction. These people quake in the presence of actions that refuse to follow their rules.

Finally, the old growth forest ecosystem includes dead and dying trees. Intrusions fracture that ecosystem. The Pingrees propose to cut an area, in trade, of old growth that contains less than 1 percent of their lands. Old growth needs protection that includes wide buffer zones around its perimeter. There are no excuses for destroying the last of our links to the past glorious forests of Maine.
