Bob Beers’ goal gives Maine win

MONCTON, New Brunswick – Bob Beers scored at 14:47 of the third period to break a 1-1 tie and Maine went on to beat Moncton 3-1 in the American Hockey League Wednesday.

The Mariners scored three times in the last period after trailing 1-0 on Simon Wheeldon’s goal in the second.

A lucky goal by defenseman Ken Hammond ignited the three-goal outburst. Hammond’s shot deflected in front of the net and took a funny hop over the glove of goaltender Stephane Beauregard.

After Beers’ goal, Jeff Lazaro drilled a low slapshot between Beauregard’s pads at 16:04.
