In dealing with the Iraq situation, is Congress exercising the same degree of expertise and foresight it has used so successfully in the past on such matters as:
Compensation for its members;
Its ethics (everyday and election);
The budget process;
Tax reform (including P.L. 97-34);
The deficit;
The selective service;
Electing its leadership;
Policy relating to energy and nuclear energy;
Failure to give the “line item veto” power to the president;
The “theater show” of confirming Supreme Court justices;
Its plan to eliminate poverty;
Its strategy in Vietnam;
The circus in Panama;
Its effective strategies in Nicaragua;
Its policy involving the baseball player lockout;
Medicare and Medicaid and its plan to reduce medical costs;
The Social Security disaster;
Its funding of (the deferred portion) the civil service retirement system;
Accepting responsibility for its actions.
Think about it!
Whatever happened to logic, common sense, and conviction? James D. MacArthur Bangor
