Congress has finally jumped into the debate over the Persian Gulf crisis. But what took them so long? They were gunning for re-election and did not want to risk losing their seats by stirring up any controversy. (The gulf crisis was never an issue in any of the congressional races.)

Now that the elections are over and the president has sent a full fighting force to Saudi Arabia, it appears Congress has entered the debate too late…. John H. Babcock Bangor
