Several new faces join Maine women’s squad for ’90-91

Chris Strong

Strong came to the Lady Black Bears team as the heir apparent to graduated starting point guard Cathy Iaconeta. A tough early-season scheduled made it difficult for the Thomaston freshman. She should play more of a role as Maine heads into its NAC schedule.

Tammi Smith

Smith, a highly-touted scorer from No. Brookfield, Mass., started the season injured. She has been getting into the flow of things lately and adds much-needed scoring punch from a lackluster UMaine bench. Has height and can hit the three. Scored 21.5 ppg in high school.

Cyndi Buetow

Buetow, at 6-foot-2, is a big girl who likes to bang. Just give her a few more games of experience dealing with the inside game of Div. I basketball and this Cologne, Minn., product will improve. Her offensive, currently her weak point, will come. Averaged 17 ppg in high school

Katti Towle

A lot of basketball people might think that Towle, a Gorham H.S. grad, might be in over her head at the Div. I level. A hard-worker and tenacious player, improvement is sure to come. How far can she go? The jury is still out. Scored 15 ppg in high school and is an able ballhandler.
