Michigan rallies to edge Tech 2-1

DETROIT – Denny Felsner’s eight-foot backhander with 2:35 remaining, his 23rd goal of the year, gave the University of Michigan a come-from-behind 2-1 win over Michigan Tech in their Great Lakes Invitational Tournament semifinal at Joe Louis Arena here Friday night.

Michigan, now 13-5-3, will gun for its third straight GLI title against the Maine-Michigan State winner on Saturday night at 7:30. Michigan Tech, 8-12-2, will face the loser in Saturday’s 4 p.m. consolation game.

Jamie Steer’s 11th goal of the season had staked Michigan Tech to a 1-0 lead in the first period but Michigan’s Jim Ballantine (3rd) tied it in the third period.

Steve Shields made 22 saves for Michigan while MTU’s Geoff Sarjeant stopped 36 shots.
