FORT KENT — Diane Dechene, R.N., director of nursing at Northern Maine Medical Center in Fort Kent, was notified by the American Nurses Association that she has been certified in nursing administration.
In 1973, the association established a certification program to provide tangible recognition of professional achievement in a defined functional or clinical area of nursing.
The program is administered by the Division of Business and Professional Services Center for Credentialing Service. ANA certification is based on assessment of knowledge, demonstration of professional achievement, and recognition by peers.
NMMC Executive Director Martin Bernstein said, “We are very pleased with Ms. Dechene’s accomplishments. It show her commitment to her nursing career and the nursing profession. It demonstrates her continued growth in learning as a nurse.”
A Fort Kent native, Dechene has been involved in health care in the St. John Valley since 1967 and has been director of nursing at NMMC since 1988.
She is a graduate of the School of Practical Nursing at Northern Maine Technical College and obtained her bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of Maine at Fort Kent.
