Stuart FTs lift Machias by Woodland

MACHIAS – Lucas Stuart hit both ends of a 1-and-1 with four seconds left in the third overtime period to give the Machias Bulldogs a 72-70 boys basketball win over Woodland here Tuesday.

Woodland missed a chance to send it into yet another overtime after missing the front end of a 1-and-1 with no time on the clock.

For the 7-1 Bulldogs, Stuart led the way with 38 points and 10 rebounds. Ryan Schoppee chipped in with 11 rebounds.

Corey McIver scored 31 points to lead the 6-5 Dragons. Ryan Cilley and Chris Shannon each scored 11 points.

HERMON – The unbeaten Hermon Hawks displayed a balanced scoring attack en route to a 67-51 schoolboy basketball win over Mount Desert Island here Tuesday night.

The Hawks remained undefeated at 9-0.

Kirk Dunton scored 11 points for the winners, with Rick Sinclair and Brent Thayer adding 10 points apiece and Shawn Thayer scoring 9.

For the Trojans, now 3-7, Chip Applegate scored 14 points and had 13 rebounds and Travis Stanley scored 12 points and also had 13 rebounds.
