Limestone plans special meeting May 29 to vote on school budget

LIMESTONE — The Limestone School Committee and the Limestone Board of Selectmen voted Wednesday to hold a special town meeting to vote on the school budget Wednesday, May 29.

The committee and board reviewed a letter from the Maine Municipal Association requesting town managers to reschedule school budget reviews because of the lack of state funding information available to school district.

School Superintendent Bernard Ryder said the committee would continue its budget process with no major budgetary assessments made until state revenue figures are made available. The committee will not approach residents with a school budget at the annual March town meeting, according to the superintendent.

The Limestone School Committee voted at a regular meeting to name Kori Ellis a part-time teacher at Damon Elementary School. Normal O’Keefe was named part-time kindergarten teacher at Limestone Elementary School, and Ruth McAtee was named art teacher at Damon.

As a budgetary move, the committee voted to freeze membership to the Limestone Scholarship Fund until September 1993. Teachers now supported by the scholarship program will be allowed to pursue advanced teaching degrees, according to Ryder.
