Welfare, food stamps essential

Gov. McKernan knows the people of Maine need welfare and food stamps. If he cuts out these programs look at all the people who will go without. I don’t know what I would do as I have three small children and I am on welfare and food stamps. McKernan doesn’t need the programs as he is well paid, but we elected him to do good for us. That means helping people in need, not turning our state into the Bronx.

My three children need to live a life, not just a day-to-day survival, not having to worry about what the next meal will be or where we will sleep that night. Why doesn’t McKernan make cuts that won’t put people out in the cold, like stop buying new cars and clothing for state workers to use? They have jobs, they can make it. People who are down and out do the best they can do on what they get; so can the people who have everything given to them.Make the cutbacks there…. Lori Burke Windsor
