ELLSWORTH – Baret Hayes scored 9 of his game-high 25 points in the final quarter to spark East Grand of Danforth to a 57-48 schoolboy basketball victory over Temple Christian Academy here Thursday night.

The Vikings’ come-from-behind victory gives them a 9-3 record.

East Grand trailed 38-35 entering the final quarter before going on to a 22-10 last quarter run.

Eric Gilman added 15 points for the winners.

For Temple Christian, 3-7, Nate Campbell and Scott Kelley (12 rebounds) posted 14 points each and Emery Bamford tossed in 12.

Caribou 62, Hampden 46

At Caribou, the Vikings moved within one win of the .500 level by defeating the Broncos. Caribou led most of the way although Hampden managed to rally to within four points in the third period.

Jason Belanger led the winners with 18 points and Ron McAtee added 12 for 4-5 Caribou.

The 0-9 Broncos were led by Joel Smith’s 9 points.

At Ashland, Central Aroostook of Mars Hill jumped ahead early as went on to register its fifth win in 12 games.

The Panthers used 14 different players in the game and 13 of them scored, led by Derek Townsend’s 30 points. Tom Peers had 12 and Chris Nicholas 10.

The Hornets, who slipped to 0-11, were paced by Ryan Caron’s 9 points.
