Foxcroft freshman rout MCI

DOVER-FOXCROFT – John Moore scored 23 points as the Foxcroft Academy Ponies freshman basketball team defeated Maine Central Institute of Pittsfield 74-38 here Saturday. Duane Walton and Rob Rockwell added 14 points each for the 8-3 winners. For MCI, 4-6, Andy Louder scored 14 points and Jesse Post posted 10.

Mattanawcook frosh boys top Penquis

LINCOLN – The host Mattanawcook Academy freshman boys defeated Penquis of Milo here Friday 55-49 in basketball action. For 8-4 Mattanawcook, John Porter had 11 points. Joe Erskine and Spike Clemons each scored 10 points. For 2-8 Penquis, Andy Hoyle scored 18 points and Larry Russell had 10.

Bangor freshman boys win

Matt Newman connected for a game-high 18 points to lead Bangor to a 72-28 Eastern Maine Freshman League basketball victory over Bucksport on Friday at Bangor High. Ronnie Patterson scored 12 ponts for the 7-2 Rams. Peter Kenney netted 11 points for 4-8 Bucksport.

Rockland frosh stay unbeaten

THORNDIKE – The Rockland High freshmen boys stayed undefeated with a 47-30 win over Mount View here Friday. Jarret Widdecomb scored 11 and Mike Norton 8 for the 9-0 victors. Randy Vitocollona and Shawn Weed each scored 8 points for the 4-3 hosts.

Old Town frosh girls drop Orono

OLD TOWN – Angie Vaillencourt scored 16 points to lead the Old Town freshman girls to a 58-28 win over Orono here Friday. For Orono, Shelly Tyrell and Kathy Abbott each scored 7 points.

Mattanawcook Jr. High edges Dexter `B’

DEXTER – Casey Lowell hit the front end of a 1-and-1 with 26 seconds left in overtime to give the Mattanawcook Junior High of Lincoln a 21-20 girls basketball win over Dexter here Friday. Casey Jordan, who had the other two overtime points for 3-5 MJHS, finished with 7 points while Laura Lavalle scored 6. For Dexter, 2-7, Kathy Breton scored 10 points.
