Certification meetings set for use of pesticide Atrazine

DOVER-FOXCROFT — Atrazine, a pesticide used by dairy farmers and Christmas tree growers in weed control, has been reclassified as a restricted-use pesticide. Those who want to use the pesticide must be certified as applicators.

The University of Maine Cooperative Extension will hold meetings around the state in cooperation with the staff from the Maine Pesticide Control Board concerning regulations regarding the use of Atrazine. The sessions are designed for people who do not have a license to use pesticides.

A meeting will be held from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27, at the Extension office in Dover-Foxcroft. At the end of the workshop, a test on the core manual and-or forage applications will be given.

Participants should call 581-3880 well in advance of the meeting date to purchase the core manual and read it before attending the meeting. To reserve a place at the meeting, call 564-3301.

For those holding a current license, there will be other opportunities to accumulate credits for recertification.
