Stearns frosh girls beat Hampden

MILLINOCKET – Kristi Wedge scored 15 points to help lead the host Stearns freshman girls to a 42-30 basketball win over Hampden here Monday. For Stearns, Tracy Jewers scored 10. For Hampden, Amy Dwyer had 9 points.

Bangor frosh boys down MDI

MOUNT DESERT – Matt Newman scored 32 points in leading the Bangor freshman boys to a 62-48 win over MDI here Monday. For 10-2 Bangor, Ron Patterson had 11 points. For 11-6 MDI, Aimee Lee scored 13.

Hermon raps Belfast

HERMON – Wesley Hatt scored 17 points to pace the Hermon freshman boys to a 62-34 victory over Belfast here Monday. For 9-8 Hermon, Chad Scripture and Chris Patten scored 13 and 12 points, respectively. For 4-13 Belfast, Scott Hall had 11.

Houlton wins County Championship

HOULTON – Houlton used a balanced scoring attack to beat Cunningham 63-35 for the Aroostook County championship in eighth grade basketball action here Monday. Jacob Gentle scored 14 points for the winners, Steve Nelson added 13, Danny Dahl put in 12, and Ryan Swallow netted 10. Lucien Labbe paced Cunningham of Presque Isle with 8 points and Tim Simpson added 7.

Nokomis frosh boys top Brewer

Dan Erskine scored a game-high 28 points to lead the Nokomis of Newport frosh boys to a 63-53 win over Brewer at Brewer Saturday. For 6-7 Nokomis, Joseph Parker had 12 points and John Cole added 10. For 11-3 Brewer, Mike Oxley and Andy Doore each had 11. Jeff Millett and Jason Glidden each scored 10.

Mattanawcook Acad. frosh tip Calais

LINCOLN – Ryan Parks scored 13 points to lead the host Mattanawcook Academy freshman boys to a 57-54 basketball win over Calais here Monday. For Calais, Scott Hill had 16 points and John Gibson added 12. Rick Marx scored 10.

Ellsworth defeats Bucksport

BUCKSPORT – Mark Hellum scored 22 points to lead Ellsworth Middle School to a 77-69 win over Bucksport Junior High here Monday. For 9-2 Ellsworth, Marc LeClair had 16 points. Andy Higgins and Kurt Harriman scored 11 and 10 points, respectively. For 5-6 Bucksport, David Winchester had 39 points and Nathan Bowden scored 15.

Nokomis frosh drop Old Town

NEWPORT – Elicia Brown scored 15 points to help pace the host Nokomis freshman boys to a 38-32 basketball win over Old Town here Monday. Nokomis is now 10-7. Tanya Sibley scored 12 for 6-8 Old Town.
