Stearns frosh girls beat Brewer

MILLINOCKET – The host Stearns freshman girls defeated Brewer 42-27 here Monday in basketball action. For 2-13 Stearns, Tracy Jones scored 10 points. For 4-13 Brewer, Chandra Blood had 10 points.

Ellsworth frosh boys eliminate MDI

ELLSWORTH – Damon Hodgkins scored 18 points to lead the Ellsworth freshman boys to a 70-53 second round playoff win over Mount Desert Island here Monday. For 14-4 Ellsworth, Ben Hamilton and Fred Ashmore scored 14 and 13 points, respectively. For 10-6 MDI, John Myers had 14 points and Brian Graves added 10.

Orono freshman boys bounce John Bapst

ORONO – Kevin Churchill scored 13 points to help pace the Orono freshman boys to a 55-27 victory over John Bapst in a second round playoff game. For 16-1 Orono, Mark Thibodeau and Shaun Hews scored 12 and 11 points, respectively. For the Crusaders, who finished the season at 8-8, John Kelly and David Bennett each scored 6. Orono plays Hermon in Brewer Saturday.

Hermon boys frosh team ousts MCI

HERMON – Chris Patten scored 21 points to lead the Hermon freshman boys to a 73-49 win over Maine Central Institute of Pittsfield here Monday in semifinal playoff action. For Hermon, Justin Shaw and Chad Scripture each scored 12 points. Matt Johnson had 10. For MCI, Andy Louder scored 11 and Chris Laplant added 10. Hermon advances to play Orono Saturday in Brewer.

Schenck boys expel Dexter

EAST MILLINOCKET – Chris Hale’s 19 points keyed host Schenck to a 55-40 victory over Dexter here Monday in a second round playoff game. For 10-1 Schenck, Mark Farmer had 14 points and Chris Merritt added 10. For 5-11 Dexter, Kevin Hantley scored 18 points. Tommy Kiernan added 10. Schenck will play the winner of Foxcroft Academy and Mattanawcook Academy on Wednesday.

Mattanawcook JHS girls top Medway

MEDWAY – Laura Lavallee scored 13 points to help pace the Mattanawcook Academy Junior High girls to a 51-36 win over the Medway B team here Monday. For 5-6 Mattanawcook, Amy Lyons had 10 points. For 2-7 Medway, Emma Hale scored 7.

Blue Hill Consolidated boys defeat DI-S

BLUE HILL – Jeremy Carter and Eammon O’Brien scored 13 and 11 points, respectively to lead Blue Hill Consolidated School to a 48-44 win over Deer Isle-Stonington here Monday in boys action. Blue Hill is 8-6. For 6-5 Deer Isle, Ryan Jones had 24.

Steuben boys down Gouldsboro

GOULDSBORO – Brenton Parritt scored 23 points to lead the Steuben Middle School boys toa 33-26 victory over Gouldsboro here Monday. For 8-5 Steuben, Mike Bellatty scored 10 points. For 2-12 Gouldsboro, Davey Seward and Phil Sargent each scored 10 points.

Bucksport boys nip George Stevens

BLUE HILL – Scott Kenny scored 12 points and Richard Foley hit for 11 more to carry Bucksport’s freshmen boys team to a 53-52 win over George Stevens Acadmey. It was Bucksport’s 7th win against 9 losses. GSA, 12-5, was paced by Mike Candage’s 20-point effort.

Bucksport eliminates GSA

BLUE HILL – Peter Kenny’s basket with 35 seconds left proved to be the game-winner as Bucksport defeated Georges Stevens 53-52 in a Coastal Freshman League semifinal here Monday. Kenny finished with 12 points for the 7-10 winners and Richard Foley added 11. Bill Candage scored a game-high 20 points for GSA of Blue Hill, which finished at 12-5.
