WILLIAMSBURG — Officers for the 1991 year for the Penquis Cruizers, a classic automobile club for the Piscataquis-Penobscot area, were elected at a meeting held Sunday at the home of Fred and Susan Worcester in Williamsburg. Prior to the meeting, a potluck dinner was held by the 18 members attending.
Officers elected were: Fred Worcester, president; Jerry Salley, vice president; Sheri Conley, treasurer; and Susan Worcester, secretary and newsletter editor.
During the business meeting, members discussed activities for the new year. Members voted to hold a “’50s and ’60s Sox Hop” from 8 p.m. to midnight, Saturday, April 13, at the Brownville Junction High School Alumni Building. Music will be provided by Greg Thibeault. A committee to make final arrangements for the dance appointed included Sheri Conley, Nancy Cook, Darlene Brown and Jerry and Stephanie Salley.
In conjunction with the dance, members voted to offer a 1957 Chevy telephone as a special fund-raising activity. Tickets for the dance and the special fund-raiser are available from Cruizer members.
Members voted to use the proceeds from the dance to sponsor a second Cruize-In in Milo during the summer. The group held its first such event during Labor Day Weekend 1990, and attracted more than 50 cars to the area. Elected to a committee to plan the Cruize-In were Fred Worcester, Jerry Salley, Richard Brown, Peter Conley, Francis Landry and Francis Ricker. No date was set for the event. The location is tentatively set for the Dexter Shoe Company parking lot in Milo.
Members agreed to hold more rallies and cruises during the summer months. President Worcester expressed his hope that 1991 would be another prosperous year for the club, in terms of events and contributions to area events and activities.
Worcester reminded members that the club has made financial donations to the Milo and Brownville Junction Christmas funds and the Support Kids In Play Project in Milo for the building of a creative playground. Members have participated in Penquis area parades several times. The group sponsored several dances as well as the 1990 Cruize-In, rallies and cruise events.
