Hurricanes set team records
BOOTHBAY – The Hurricane Swim Club of the Bangor YMCA set seven team records at the Hebron Aquatics Boothbay Invitational here Saturday. Heather Babcock, Heather McLeod, and Danny Reid each set two records while Brian Long set one record.
Babcock, competing in the 11-12 age division, set a record in the 1500-meter freestyle for the 11-12 age division with a time of 21 minutes, 57.96 seconds. She also set a record in the 200 butterfly with a 3:05.16 time. She finished third overall in each event and also placed third in 50 butterfly, 50 freestyle, and 200 free. McLeod, competing in the 13-14 age group, placed first overall and set a team record in the 1500 free with a 19:49.84 time and another record in the 200 fly at 2:50.57. She also won the 200 free, 50 free, and 400 individual medley.
Reid, competing in 13-14, placed second overall in the 200 breaststroke and set a team record of 2:52.76 and also set the team record of 36.95 seconds in the 50 breaststroke. Long, also in the 13-14, placed first in the 50 backstroke for a team-record time of 35.08 seconds. He also placed third in the 50 butterfly and 200 backstroke with a second in the 50 free.
Cara Malerba, in 11-12, placed first in the 200 breaststroke and 50 breaststroke with a second in the 50 butterfly. Jason Williams, in 13-14, placed third in the 50 breaststroke.
