Highway projects starting

Route 178

BRADLEY — The Maine Department of Transportation will reconstruct a section of Route 178 in Eddington and Bradley. The project will be explained during a hearing at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 21, at the Viola Rand School in Bradley.

The project will run from Meadow Brook near the Eddington-Bradley town line north 2 1/2 miles. The proposal is available for inspection at the town offices in Eddington and Bradley.

Eaton Brook Bridge

AUGUSTA — Work has resumed on improvements to Eaton Brook Bridge on Route 9-North Main Street in Brewer, said Maine Department of Transportation officials.

Galen Costigan, MDOT resident engineer, said work had been suspended since last fall because of winter weather and problems maintaining traffic through a construction zone.

The project includes replacement of a deteriorated bridge deck, Costigan said. Realigning steel beams to eliminate an overhang is included. Bridge approaches will be rebuilt to match the 40-foot-wide bridge deck.

The bridge work is part of a larger $895,592 contract held by Lane Construction of Meriden, Conn., to repave part of North and South Main Street.
