DOVER-FOXCROFT — Kristin Pullen and Katherine Forbes, two teens from Piscataquis County, have been selected to perform with Continental Singers next summer, and performed in a special night of gospel music to celebrate and prepare for the tours.
They were joined at a concert Sunday night at the United Baptist Church by several well-known local gospel musicians including Russell Hewett, Ron Warren, Michael Loguercio, Ginny Reed, Kevin Grant, Bill Forbes, and John Pullen.
Pullen, daughter of John and Wendy Pullen of Monson, is a sophomore at Gordon College in Wenham, Mass. Forbes, daughter of Bill and Gerri Forbes of Dover-Foxcroft, is a junior at Foxcroft Academy. The singers will present performances across the United States traveling by bus, and then will fly overseas for performances.
Forbes’ group will minister to people in Holland, Denmark, Sweden, and Norway, while Pullen’s group will minister to people in Italy, Romania, and Yugoslavia. They will give at least one concert a day, and sometimes two or three a day, for the entire summer.
The Continental Singers have performed in Guilford, Dover-Foxcroft and Bangor in recent years. They are part of a non-denominational Christian organization called Continental Ministries. They began with one tour group 17 years ago singing contemporary Christian songs, and now there are 14 groups that travel all over the world, each with about 25 singers and 14 instrumentalists.
As Continental Singers, Kristin and Katherine are required to raise their own support, amounting to $4,000 each. The concert on Sunday was part of their fund-raising efforts and a free-will offering wastaken.
